Newly Qualified Occupational Therapists Celebrate their Graduation

Taking place over the last two years, the 10 students have passed with flying colours and celebrated this momentous achievement at York Minster. Giving students the opportunity to understand the complexities between occupation, health and wellbeing, the accredited MSc means students can now seek professional registration as occupational therapists.

Julie Ferguson, who achieved a Merit in Occupational Therapy at York St John University said: “I always wanted to study Occupational Therapy at University and I knew how good York St John was for teaching it. Throughout my two years here, I’ve been able to build on my skills to become a registered occupational therapist. Through hours of clinical practice and the endless support of my lecturer’s, I’ve been able to achieve something that I’m incredibly proud of!”

Shortly into her first year at York St John, Julie was diagnosed with dyslexia. Julie added: “I thought finding out that I had dyslexia would make studying OT at York St John even harder, but it actually worked out the other way round. By using the support available at Uni, I took on board feedback and worked exceptionally hard – my marks significantly improved and I even managed to secure myself a job before finishing the course.”

Accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), the Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) MSc is a two-year accelerated course with at least 1000 hours of clinical practice, designed to prepare students for a career in occupational therapy.
